Professional Exchange of Hong Kong and
Macao Museums
|
A museology event “Professional Exchange of Hong Kong and
Macao Museums” took place in Macao on the 8th, 9th and 10th of November, 2001. Organized and coordinated by the Cultural Institute and the Museum of
Macao, the initiative was to promote contacts with Hong Kong’s
Mus eums and to established a dialogue concerning museology and the awareness to preserve culture and heritage.
The Hong Kong participants were curators and representatives of Hong Kong Museum of Art Mr. Ho Kam-chuen, Hong Kong Science Museum Mr. Yip Chee-kuen, Hong Kong Museum of History Dr. Joseph Ting, Hong Kong Heritage Museum Mr. Yim Shui-yuen, Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Mr. Gary Ning Hung Pun and University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong Mr. Yueng Chun-tong and Mr. Alexander Hui.
The event started on the 8th of November at 9:30 a.m. in the Auditorium of the Museum of
Macao. After receiving
the Hong Kong participants, the Vice-president of the Cultural Institute Ms. Lam Wan Nei gave a welcoming speech.
Afterwards, the group visited the Museum of Macao, Fortress Garden, Ruins of St. Paul and the Sacred Art Museum, St. Dominic’s Church and the Museum, Guia Lighthouse, etc. The next day, they visited the Grand Prix Museum, Wine Museum, Museum of Art and the Houses Museum on Av. da Praia, Taipa, also made a special visit guided by Engineer Stephen Chan of DPC from Cultural Institute to the patrimony requested to the World Cultural Heritage in UNESCO, i.e. Ama Temple, Moorish Barracks, Lilau Well Square, Mandarim House, St. Lawrence’s Church, St. Joseph’s Church, Dom Pedro V Theatre, St. Augustine’s Church and the Leal Senado.
During the visits, the museums from Hong Kong and Macao were able to exchange different ideas on conservation and varied aspects of museology.
On the 10th November, at the Auditorium of the Museum of Macao, the representatives of Hong Kong and
Macao Museums exchanged experience concerning management, exhibition, promotion, profession training for staff, relics conservation and future development of Museums. During the seminar, ideas and informations were exchanged. The participants from Hong Kong and
Macao’s Museums, concentrated on the importance of preventative conservation and the need for more findings. For the next expected seminar, the Museums hope to establish a dialogue related to museology and cooperation between museums.
