Summer Course on Understanding Archaeology, Conservation and Heritage 2002

The Museum of Macao organized for the third consecutive year the Summer Course on Understanding Archaeology, Conservation and Heritage, between 1st July to 30th August. These activities include the participation of 64 students from St. João de Brito School, St. José School (VI), Sagrado Coração de Jesus College (chinese section) and Yuet Wah College (chinese section).

The course is divided into three parts:
1st – Archaeology: Conservation and Restoration theories; methods and processes of archaeologic excavation; archaeologic excavation in a miniature model; technical drawing and measuring of ceramic pieces; cleaning, conservation and restoration of archaeologic pieces.

2nd – Patrimony
: Conference about the Mandarim House and the Tak Seng Pawn Shop organized by the Cultural and Patrimony Department of the Cultural Institute. After the conference a visit will be made to these locations.

3rd – Visits to the Fortress Mount, St. Paul’s Ruins, Sacred Art Museum and S. Domingos Church. The students will present a report concerning one of these locations.

At the end of the course, the students visited the Zhuhai Museum, archaeologic excavations and registration of Bronze Age. And a graduation ceremony was organized to distribute certificates and prizes.
