The Museums of
Macao have taken the initiative for the third year running in organizing a program for International Museum Day, 18th May 2002. This is an important date for Museums around the world. This year each of the Museum participants will organize their own activities.

There will be a free shuttle bus service on the 18th and 19th May, (please consult the timetable in annex).
The Museum of Macao will embark into a new era celebrating its fourth anniversary after having been opened in 1998. Its collection covers a large area of broad cultural content, including religious arts and crafts, clothing, decorations, theatre, music, paintings, science and technology not to mention archaeological finds, sociology, history and education. All the objects on display have significant historical value and are a reflection of Macao’s cultural traditions.
The Museum introduces the visitor into a dynamic audio-visual world of educational value, bringing back to life brilliant stories with the aim of reviving memories that represent social characteristics of life in old Macao.
With the aim of celebrating International Museum Day, the Museum of
Macao, a recent member of ICOM (International Council of Museums) will focus on the importance of “Museums and Globalization”, underlining the value of the preservation of our cultural heritage and its unique intrinsic value. A series of activities will be organized within the Museum on the 18th and 19th of May (please consult the activities in annex) during which time entry to the Museum will be free. These activities will heighten the awareness of cultural diversity and the influence, which has been had on forming Macao’s heritage framework.
This day plays a fundamental role in promoting the importance of Museums within our society and the responsibility they have in safeguarding the ever-changing global environment that we live in. International Museum day is celebrated worldwide and raises the awareness of the global Museum network.
