Cinema in Macao

Introduction

In the exhibition entitled as "Cinemas in Macao - A Retrospective exhibition of the Movie Projection Industry in Macao" at the Museum of Macao, everything is just like stepping in a time tunnel.   You will see the rise of the movie projection industry in Macao a hundred years ago, and experience the strong impact a western movie had on the traditional entertainment at the time when it was first introduced to the Macao society.

In 1893, "Motion Pictures" was shown in Macao, and formed the rudiment of the movie projection industry in Macao.  In 1910, the establishment of Victoria Theater in Macao was the beginning of the movie projection business in Macao.   Then, it was developed from only one theater to having more than ten at its prime time, the highest audience record of several millions a year.  There were projections of numerous movies, from silent at the first stage to sound movies; following the development in science and technology, color movies, stereo movies, board screen movie, and stereo board screen movies. The development of the movie projection industry over the hundred of years is truly reflected in the "Cinemas in Macao" exhibition.

Hopefully this exhibition can call out the cherish memory of the industry at its prime time, and draw forth the warmth and passions accompanying those old movies.
