Arrangements for Special Weather Conditions

Located in a tropical region south of the Tropic of Cancer, Macao has a temperate climate, adequate rainfall and frequent rain during Summer. The region is hot and humid between May and September, during which period it often experiences typhoons (tropical cyclones) and torrential rain. When the No.8 Typhoon warning signal is hoisted, all sea and air transportation is curtailed and public transport in the city suspended.

Arrangements within Duration of Typhoon Warnings

The following applies to the Macao Museum and its affiliated galleries:

During tropical cyclone (typhoon):

If typhoon warning signal No.8 or above is hoisted prior to 9:00am, all venues will be closed.

If typhoon warning signal No.8 or above is issued during normal opening hours, all venues will immediately be closed.

If typhoon warning signal No.8 or above is issued after 1:00pm, all venues will be closed in the afternoon.

Following tropical cyclone:

If typhoon warning signal No.8 is lowered prior to 7:30am, all venues will open during normal opening hours.

All venues will open to the public 1.5 hours after typhoon warning signal No.8 is lowered.

If typhoon warning signal No.8 is lowered after 2:30pm, all venues will be closed in the afternoon.

Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre

The Centre will be closed when typhoon warning signal No.3 or above is hoisted.

The Centre will open to the public two hours after typhoon warning signal No.3 is lowered.

If typhoon warning signal No.3 is lowered after 4:00pm, the Centre will not open to the public on that day.

Arrangements during Torrential Rain

The Macao Museum will open as usual during torrential rain. However, the arrangement of all docent services and workshop activities organised by the Museum for primary, secondary and tertiary schools will be subject to measures adopted by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) during tropical cyclones and rainstorms.
