Macao Museum Hosts Various Activities to Celebrate International Museum Day
The International Council of Museums has designated 18th May as ‘International Museum Day’. In May each year, Macao museums host various excellent activities. In particular, Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau will host a wide range of activities and workshops to celebrate this grand annual event for museums. It welcomes the participation of all residents.
Macao Museum will collaborate with the 20 other museums in Macao to host the Macao International Museum Day Fair 2014, with booth games in the plaza of the Taipa Houses-Museum on 4th May. In order to enable local residents and tourists to better understand the conservation of Cantonese Opera in Macao, an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, it will specially host a ‘Juveniles’ Cantonese Opera Performance’, ‘Taking Pictures with Cantonese Opera Child Stars’ and ‘Family Workshop for Drawing Cantonese Opera Characters’ Masks’. The family workshop will be instructed by experts and welcomes the participation of parents and their children. The booth of Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business will host the game ‘Macao World Heritage Discovery’. Via this game, participants can accumulate more knowledge about Macao’s world heritage. This year, the fair will take place in the Taipa Houses-Museum so that participants can enjoy a leisurely and comfortable day in a Portuguese-style environment. Residents and tourists wishing to attend this fair can take the shuttle buses arranged by the organisers to and from the fair site for free.
On International Museum Day on 18th May, Macao Museum and the Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business will open to the public for free. From 11:00am – 1:00pm and 3:00pm – 5:00pm, the game ‘How Much Do You Know about Macao's World Heritage Sites?’ will be held in Macao Museum. In addition, two free docent service sessions will be conducted at 11:00am and 4:00pm (Mandarin), 12:00noon (Cantonese) and 3:00pm (English) on that day.
Macao Museum opens to Macao citizens for free every Sunday. Those who are interested in joining the above-mentioned activities and workshops can apply for them by phoning Ms. Leong during office hours (Tel: (853) 8394 1218). On weekends and public holidays, they can call (853) 8394 1204 to apply. Limited seats available on a first-come-first-served basis.
