After the tea leaves are withered, rolled and roasted, some types of leaves need to be grounded finely and evenly so as to be compressed into a tea cake. In this painting, the tea worker is grinding the tea leaves vigorously with a wood pestle while the shaped tea cakes are being dried in the sun.
