Since becoming an open port in the 16th century, Macao developed from a small fishing village to a small city, with lots of different industries emerging, such as the incense, firecracker and match handicraft industries. Due to external market demand and the favourable conditions of the then socio-economic system of Macao, the aforementioned industries developed rapidly and became one of the major backbones of the economy of Macao in the past.

The exhibition is divided into six zones – the incense industry zone, the match industry zone, the firecracker industry zone, the foreign trade zone, the scene simulation zone, the education zone and projection room. Through the aforementioned zones, visitors are allowed to have some insight into the rise and fall of these industries in Macao.
