The year 2005 marks the 600th anniversary of the naval expedition of Zheng He (1371-1433), who made his first voyage in 1405. It not only aroused tremendous interest among the academic circles to study the seven expeditions that took Zheng He to the Indian Ocean and Africa, but it also drew widespread attention towards the subject of China’s maritime history. The staging of the exhibition East Meets West-Cultural Relics from the Pearl River Delta Region at this juncture of time carries special connotations.
