Macao Museum and affiliated galleries remain open to the public during holidays of Chinese New Year

Macao Museum and affiliated galleries under Cultural Affairs Bureau including Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt, Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business, Mount Fortress Corridor and Guia Chapel at the Guia Fortress will remain open to the public on Chinese New Year Eve (9th February), as well as from the first to the third days of Chinese New Year (10th to 12th February). Macao residents and foreign visitors are welcomed to visit during the holidays. Macao residents with valid identity card or student card will receive free admission to Macao Museum from the first to the fourth day of Chinese New Year.

The ticket lobby in Macao Museum will be decorated with pleasing New Year flowers and plants in order to enhance the atmosphere of Chinese New Year. The cabinet of donated cultural relics at the lobby displays the cultural relics donated by enthusiastic people from all walks of life recently. Visitors are able to have more understanding of the donated cultural relics received by Macao Museum.

In addition, the special exhibition “Journey to the Ends of the World: Michele Ruggieri and Jesuits in China” will be held in Macao Museum during Chinese New Year. Visitors will be able to gain understanding on the orientation of cultural exchange between China and Europe in Macao formed upon the arrival of Catholic missionaries in the early period of Macao, by admiring various and rare exhibits loaned from the National Archives of Rome, the Biblioteca Alessandrina di Roma, the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Archivio di Stato di Napoli, the Society of Jesus in Portugal, the Diocese of Macao, the Society of Jesus of Macao, the Museum of the Holy House of Mercy, the Macao Central Library and the Historical Archives of Macao.

The introduction of European culture and religions, as well as the introduction of Chinese culture to all parts of Europe made a significant contribution to the exchange from Macao to European culture. The special exhibition, a project enlisted in the China-European Union Year of Intercultural Dialogue by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, presents outlook and landscape of the cultural exchange between Europe and China in the early period to the visitors, many schools and associations organized visits to this exhibition. All people are welcomed to visit this meaningful exhibition during the holidays of Chinese New Year.

The opening hours of the Macao Museum is from 10 am to 6 pm (ticket booth closes at 5:30 pm). Guided tour services will operate as usual on the Chinese New Year Eve (9th February) and the first day of the Chinese New Year (10th February).
