‘For the People – Sun Yat Sen and Macao’ open until next Sunday at Macao Museum

Organised by the Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the exhibition For the People – Sun Yat Sen and Macao is not only one of the most important events celebrating the centenary anniversary of the 1911 Revolution but is one that focuses on patriotism. The exhibition can be seen in the 3rd Floor Exhibition Gallery.

Since opening on 24th September, the exhibition has attracted a great host of residents and tourists, with several schools and organisations actively employing it as teaching material for the history of the 1911 Revolution. Residents, tourists and organisations should grasp this opportunity as the exhibition will close on the afternoon of Sunday 11th December 2011.

Dr. Sun Yat Sen was a great pioneer of the democratic revolution in modern era China. His whole life was closely associated with Macao. Through this exhibition, exhibition-goers have the opportunity to view more than 200 precious original cultural artefacts and photos, by which they may understand historical events and fragments of the life of Dr. Sun and his family in Macao.

On loan from 14 museums, cultural institutions and individual collectors from Macao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Taipei and Hong Kong, what is uniquely valuable in this exhibition is that a considerable number of exhibits contain much that is new, with some items never having been displayed in Macao and hence well worth savouring.

To enrich the content of the exhibits, the exhibition features a 13-minute historical documentary - Dr. Sun Yat Sen in Macao - co-produced by the Macao Museum and the “Shanghai Media Group”, Inc. Many rarely seen video clips depicting early Macao are screened, thereby enabling exhibition-goers to more thoroughly understand Dr. Sun’s life in Macao. Moreover, a sound recording of a speech made by Dr. Sun titled Voice of the National Father is also broadcast in order to enable exhibition-goers to feel the immensely strong sincerity and noble sentiments Dr. Sun had for his country and the people.

The catalogue For the People – Sun Yat Sen and Macao edited and produced especially for this exhibition introduces the close connection between Dr. Sun and Macao with both images and writings. Furthermore, based on the historical context and political environment of the time, it discusses the peculiar contribution created by the 1911 Revolution and the overthrow of feudalism in China.

This catalogue not only communicates history but serves as an eternal commemoration of the Macao people to Dr. Sun. A 20% discount will be given for purchase during the exhibition period and until 31st January 2012 at the Museum Shop and Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business.

Macao Museum also offers discounted admission tickets to holders of an Air Macau boarding pass plus free admission to Macao ID cardholders and student cardholders on Sundays. The Museum opens from 10:00am to 6:00pm (ticket booth closes at 5:30pm) and is closed on Mondays.
