Free Entry to Macao Museum on China Cultural Heritage Day

To welcome China Cultural Heritage Day, public admission to Macao Museum and the Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business under the Cultural Affairs Bureau will be free on 13th and 14th June (Saturday and Sunday). A brilliant exhibition is now open at Macao Museum, and all are welcome to visit

Macao Museum is currently holding the temporary exhibition From Lorient to the Orient - Port Cities of China and France on the 18th Century Maritime Silk Route on the 3rd floor of the complex, showcasing various commodities and products of the French East India Company taken from China to Europe. The items on display are on loan from several prestigious French museums: Musée de la Compagnie des Indes - Ville de Lorient, Musée des Arts décoratifs – Département Mode et Textile (Paris), Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon, Musée de la Toile de Jouy (Jouy-en-Josas); and from renowned French firms, collectors and The Peninsula Hong Kong. Through these items, exhibition-goers can understand the condition of commodity trading between France and faraway Chinese coastal cities via the Maritime Silk Route at that time.

The exhibition also features an introduction to the fashionable ‘Chinoiserie’- a phenomenon popular in Europe for over a century due to the prosperous maritime Eurasian trade at that time - which is well worth viewing. To instil a deeper understanding of the theme of the exhibition, an education corner is available inside the venue, in addition to showing a documentary and a short animated film, in which a simulation of the journey from Lorient to Guangzhou by way of Macao in those years is shown so that exhibition-goers can learn more about the historical context then.

Moreover, to nurture children’s interest in art, history and culture, the organiser will hold a Creative Card Sleeve Design Workshop for children after the exhibition in the Macao Museum from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on 12th July (Sunday). For enquiries, please contact Ms. Wu at 8394 1210 during office hours.

Residents and tourists are welcome to join the above mentioned activities held in Macao Museum. Guided tours for the temporary exhibition will be arranged from 3:30pm to 4:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The Macao Museum opens from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and the Heritage Exhibition of a Traditional Pawnshop Business opens from 10:30am to 7:00pm. For more information, please visit the Cultural Affairs Bureau website: www.icm.gov.mo or Macao Museum website: www.macaumuseum.gov.mo, or contact us via tel. 2835 7911 during office hours.
