76 1 The Invention of Photography and the Earliest Photographs of Macao 2009-08-18 00:00:00.000 Organised by the Macao Museum, the exhibition titled A Journey through Light and Shadow – The Invention of Photography and the Earliest Photographs of Macao, China is now on display.
Of great local historical significance, this themed exhibition has attracted more than 50,000 local residents and tourists since opening on 23rd May. Some scholars and seniors have even paid several visits to the exhibition for further investigation and appreciation. In addition, many group visits have been organised by academic institutions and schools. The exhibition closes on Sunday 23rd August. All residents and tourists are welcome to seize the last opportunity to enjoy this remarkable exhibition, the opening hours of which are from 10:00am to 6:00pm (ticket sales close at 5:30pm). To commemorate the 170th anniversary of the invention of photography and the 165th anniversary of the introduction of photography to China, the Macao Museum has co-operated with 13 cultural institutions and private collectors, including the Nicéphore Niépce Museum, to organise this exhibition in Macao – the city in which photography was first introduced to China. The exhibition will showcase 190 photographs borrowed from the National Library of France, the National Museum of Asian Art-Guimet, and similar stellar institutions. The photographs and three-dimensional photos, most of which have never been shown in Asia, feature scenes of Macao (China), Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Guangxi, Shanghai and Beijing in the 19th and early 20th Century.
The exhibition also showcases some 262 examples of rarely seen antique photographic equipment and apparatus. The world’s first photograph - View from the Window at Le Gras - and the first group of shootings on daguerreotype taken in Macao and first displayed in Macao, such as Praia Grande (script) and A-Ma Temple, can be regarded as the earliest photographs introduced to our nation and should not be missed! These photographs not only enable exhibition-goers to recapture the memorable former moments of Macao but open a gateway to the better understanding of the history and development of the city.
An album featuring the exhibition A Journey through Light and Shadow – The Invention of Photography and the Earliest Photographs of Macao, China has been published. In addition to a compilation of historic information and images illustrating the transformation of the world history of photography and China’s early photographic history, the album encompasses the notes of the famous French photography historian Dr. Régine Thiriez and local photographer Wong Ho Sang. The album, which depicts the historical development of photography and presents the earliest photographs of China, is a meaningful and rare collection to be treasured. During the exhibition (within this week), the album can be purchased at a 20% discount in the gift shop of the Macao Museum, Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, and the Cultural Club at Tak Seng On Pawnshop. Following the exhibition, the album will be sold at its original price.

news/2011/gs_news.jpg NULL 4 99 NULL 96 1 Traveller’s Home: Masterworks by George Chinnery A series of themed seminars 2010-06-05 00:00:00.000 The themed seminar series on the exhibition Traveller’s Home: Masterworks by George Chinnery opened to the public last Saturday in the Macao Museum Auditorium. The forthcoming second and third seminars are not to be missed if you failed to catch last week’s first installment! The first seminar, ‘George Chinnery and Macao’, was hosted by respected Macao scholar Dr. Chan Kai Chon, and focused on Chinnery’s background, his family life and his travels from London to India via Dublin. In 1825, Chinnery travelled from India to Macao by ship and he thereafter resided in Macao until his death in 1852, and he is now buried in the Macao Protestant Cemetery.
In order to enable the public to gain a deeper understanding of George Chinnery’s life, Dr. Chan made use of a variety of historical information and pictures to analyse and explain the value and significance of his work in the history of Macao. In addition to vividly capturing Macao’s landscape, Chinnery’s works also bear witness to a number of historical figures at the time.
More than 50 people including art enthusiasts, local residents, teachers and students, attended the first seminar. The seminar was well-spirited and enjoyable, and all participants were keen to ask questions about the experiences of this foreign painter who spent much of his life in Macao and the influence that his work had on China and Macao, which Dr. Chan answered one by one.
The second seminar, ‘George Chinnery - A European Artist in the East’ (in English with Cantonese interpretation), will be hosted by English scholar Dr. Patrick Conner at 3:00 pm - 5:00pm on Saturday 5th June 2010.
The third seminar, ‘Macao, Guangzhou and Hong Kong in the Era of Chinnery (1825-1852)’ (in Cantonese), will be hosted by Hong Kong scholar Dr. Joseph Ting Sun Pao at 3:00pm - 5:00pm on Saturday 19th June 2010.

During the sessions, scholars specialized in protection of intangible cultural heritage from China will be invited to serve as speakers. Interested parties are welcome to attend.
With 450 hundred years’ history on cross-cultural communication between China and the West in addition to thousands of years’ of Chinese civilization behind, Macao features many distinctive, exceptional and multicultural intangible cultural heritages. These heritages are in need of our protection and efforts to pass down. In recent years, the public and the Government have been discussing at different levels on how to protect and pass down these fine traditions. In order to encourage local people, associations and institutions to submit their applications, and in order to provide them with a better knowledge of the procedure concerned, Macao Museum of IC has especially scheduled two briefing sessions, inviting two expert leaders from the national intangible heritage evaluation team – Mr. Qi Qingfu, a professor of Minzu University of China, and Mr. Wu Wenke, the director of the Quyi (Singing and Narrative Arts) Department at the Academy of Arts of China – to join the events. They will briefly explain to the public the protection policies of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and of China. The briefing will be from a nation-wide angle to explore the cultural value of Macao’s national intangible heritage and to introduce the assessment criteria of the national intangible cultural heritage. There will be communication with the public to answer their questions concerning the application, offering effective information and tips for those who are interested in protecting the intangible cultural heritage in Macao and intended to submit their application.
The session concerning folk culture (festivals or others) will be held on November 13th (Saturday), from 3 pm till 5 pm, and another session concerning Quyi and performing arts on November 14th (Sunday), from 3 pm till 5 pm. To complement the exhibition, it will host two seminars in the Macao Museum Auditorium prior to and during the exhibition. The first session will be held on Saturday 27th November. Interested parties and residents are welcome to enrol for the seminar.
Following the successful inscription of ‘Macao Religious Figure Carving’ on the list of the second batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage on 14th June 2008, the Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau once again initiated the declaration for three items, namely “Taoist Ritual Music in Macao”, “Cantonese Naamyam (Narrative Songs)”, and “Feast of the Drunken Dragon”. The relevant documents were submitted to the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China in September 2009. The results will be announced by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China by the end of this year.
Taoism is a religion native to China. Taoist Ritual Music, which is commonly used in Taoist ceremonies, remains an integral part of traditional Chinese folk music. As at the present, Macao has preserved nearly 500 items of Taoist Ritual Music from the Lingnan Zhengyi and Quanzhen schools. Such a large number of repertoires is unrivalled by any other Taoist ritual music genre in the world.
The two seminars - known as ‘The Influence of Taoist Ritual Music in Macao’ and ‘The Value of Taoist Ritual Music’ - will be held on Saturday 27th November from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and on Saturday 18th December from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, respectively. The Macao Museum has specially invited Wang Zhongren, a former associate professor of Wuhan Conservatory of Music, to speak at the seminars, which are conducted in Mandarin.
Through the seminars, the organizer seeks to enable audiences to recognise the historical context and characteristics of the traditional folk music of Taoist Ritual Music in Macao. Taoism is a traditional Chinese native religion and part of the Chinese culture. It greatly enriches the Chinese traditional culture during its long development process. Up until now, its influence is still profound. Chinese traditional culture which is composed of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism is actually the backbone of Macao’s local culture. Therefore, the music played during the Taoist rituals (generally called “Taoist Fasts and Offerings Music” or “Taoist Ritual Music”) becomes one of the Macao’s local intangible cultural heritage elements.
The themed exhibition Heavenly Harmonies – Taoist Ritual Music in Macao held by the Museum aims at showing to the public the representative achievements of Macao’s local traditional music and promoting the cultural value contained. At the same time, this exhibition is expected to showcase the significance and the current progress of salvaging, conserving, systemizing and studying the local endangered traditional music. Besides, by holding this exhibition, it is believed that the general public can have a better knowledge and understanding about this intangible cultural heritage so that the public awareness of preservation can be enhanced.
In order to help the residents and visitors in Macao get more acquainted with the features of the Taoist Ritual Music in Macao, the organizer has arranged two themed seminars to tie in with the exhibition. The first session was held on November 27th and the second one will be held in the Macao Museum Auditorium on December 18th (Saturday), from 3 pm to 5 pm. news/2010/Seminar_heritage1128.jpg NULL 2 88 NULL 119 1 Outstanding Performance Award for Macao Museum Docents 2010 2011-01-25 12:00:00.000 The “Outstanding Contracted Docent Award Ceremony 2010”, hosted by the Macao Museum, was held last Sunday (January 23) to recognize well-performing contracted docents for their quality service to the public last year, encouraging them for their excellent long-term contribution to the general public and school education.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chan Ieng Hin, Director of the Macao Museum, recognized the docents who has made significant contributions to public services over last year. In fact, the Museum pays great attention to guided tour service, seeing it as one of the most important output. Therefore, in order to promote quality services, and raise and foster this kind of ethos to serve the public, award ceremony is held regularly every year. The number of visitors using Macao Museum’s guided tour services increases year by year, reaching an amount of 14,655 in 2010, up by 14.4% compared with 2009, and setting a new record again with the number of 1,038 tours, up by 11.7% compared with 2009. Last year was also the year when this service got expanded to the Mandarin House. The figures tells not only the public’s great concern on the Museum, but also the successful achievements that the Museum had on promoting quality guided tour service and improving docents’ guiding skills. So, in order to meet the increasing need of guided tour service in the future, last year Macao Museum hosted the “4th Docent Training Course of Cultural Affairs Bureau”, intended to bring in talent to strengthen the tour guiding team.
This year, six docents were awarded the “Outstanding Contracted Docent Award 2010”, including Wong Siu Wai, Chio Ieng Soi, Lei Cecilia Sam I, Ieong Weng Chao, Fong Un Wa and Chan Wa Kan, while three received the “Enthusiastic Contracted Docent Award 2010”, including Cheong Wan I, Lau Si Weng and Wong Cheng Lai. Totally 22 docents were granted the “Contracted Docent Award 2010”, including Chan Wa Kan, Ieong Weng Chao, Fong Un Wa, Chan Un Un, Kou Iun Fong, Lei Kit Peng, Chan Lin Chu, Cheong Mei Iong, Chio Ieng Soi, Lao Kin Mei, Lei Cecilia Sam I, Chan Mei Ieng, Wong Siu Wai, Pang Sao Lai, Si Ieong, Hou Kaina, Vai Oi Leng, Lei Sin I, Ieong Un U, Wong Kuan Fu and Sio Kin Sang. During the Ceremony, video clips and photos shot last year during the guided tour were especially showed to the attendants and some awardees were invited to share their experiences on tour guiding. There were also party and lucky draw, creating a nice and friendly atmosphere for the activity.

The Taoist Ritual Music is one of the Macao Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. To discover and to communicate the information of protecting intangible Cultural Heritage, Macao Museum organizes the exhibition. The visitor will interprets all sorts of taoist ritual music and knows the achievement of Macao Museum to preserve more than 500 kinds of the music.

news/2011/ChineseNewYear2.jpg NULL 1 88 NULL 121 1 Macao Museum Closes Application for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the End of March, Exhibition of Taoist Ritual Music to Extend until May 2011-03-18 12:00:00.000 Since the Cultural Affairs Bureau established the list of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2007, the declaration work has been drawing extensive attention and support from various social sectors plus the active participation of numerous organisations. Currently, the list of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage features six items, three of which, namely “Yueju Opera”(Cantonese Opera), “Herbal Tea” and “Woodwork – Macao Religious Figure Carving”, are successfully inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The remaining three items “Cantonese Naamyam (Narrative Songs)”, “Macao Taoist Ritual Music”, and “Festival of the Drunken Dragon” are also included in the national public review list. Yueju Opera (Cantonese Opera) is even inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
For the purpose of preserving Macao’s intangible cultural heritage, the declaration of the current batch of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage will close on 31st March. Interested institutions or individuals are welcome to submit applications to the Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau prior to the above mentioned deadline.
Interested individuals may download the application form from the Macao Museum website, together with a short clip (maximum 10 minutes in DVD format) and a minimum of five digital photographs (5.0 megapixels or more) of the declared item, proof of written consent from the heir(s) and written consent for Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau to use the application materials for publicity and promotion. As the declaration of intangible cultural heritage is a long-term project which places strong emphasis on quality and content, should any institutions or individuals be unable to meet the deadline, they are encouraged to participate in the next batch of declarations.

To commemorate the 170th anniversary of the invention of photography and the 165th anniversary of the introduction of photography to China, the Macao Museum has co-operated with 13 cultural institutions and private collectors, including the Nicéphore Niépce Museum, to organise this exhibition in Macao – the city in which photography was first introduced to China. The exhibition will showcase 190 photographs borrowed from the National Library of France, the National Museum of Asian Art-Guimet, and similar stellar institutions. The photographs and three-dimensional photos, most of which have never been shown in Asia, feature scenes of Macao (China), Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Guangxi, Shanghai and Beijing in the 19th and early 20th Century.
The exhibition also showcases some 262 examples of rarely seen antique photographic equipment and apparatus. The world’s first photograph - View from the Window at Le Gras - and the first group of shootings on daguerreotype taken in Macao and first displayed in Macao, such as Praia Grande (script) and A-Ma Temple, can be regarded as the earliest photographs introduced to our nation and should not be missed! These photographs not only enable exhibition-goers to recapture the memorable former moments of Macao but open a gateway to the better understanding of the history and development of the city.
An album featuring the exhibition A Journey through Light and Shadow – The Invention of Photography and the Earliest Photographs of Macao, China has been published. In addition to a compilation of historic information and images illustrating the transformation of the world history of photography and China’s early photographic history, the album encompasses the notes of the famous French photography historian Dr. Régine Thiriez and local photographer Wong Ho Sang. The album, which depicts the historical development of photography and presents the earliest photographs of China, is a meaningful and rare collection to be treasured. During the exhibition (within this week), the album can be purchased at a 20% discount in the gift shop of the Macao Museum, Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, and the Cultural Club at Tak Seng On Pawnshop. The forthcoming second and third seminars are not to be missed if you failed to catch last week’s first installment! The first seminar, ‘George Chinnery and Macao’, was hosted by respected Macao scholar Dr. Chan Kai Chon, and focused on Chinnery’s background, his family life and his travels from London to India via Dublin. In 1825, Chinnery travelled from India to Macao by ship and he thereafter resided in Macao until his death in 1852, and he is now buried in the Macao Protestant Cemetery.
In order to enable the public to gain a deeper understanding of George Chinnery’s life, Dr. Chan made use of a variety of historical information and pictures to analyse and explain the value and significance of his work in the history of Macao. In addition to vividly capturing Macao’s landscape, Chinnery’s works also bear witness to a number of historical figures at the time.
More than 50 people including art enthusiasts, local residents, teachers and students, attended the first seminar. The seminar was well-spirited and enjoyable, and all participants were keen to ask questions about the experiences of this foreign painter who spent much of his life in Macao and the influence that his work had on China and Macao, which Dr. Chan answered one by one.
The second seminar, ‘George Chinnery - A European Artist in the East’ (in English with Cantonese interpretation), will be hosted by English scholar Dr. Patrick Conner at 3:00 pm - 5:00pm on Saturday 5th June 2010.
The third seminar, ‘Macao, Guangzhou and Hong Kong in the Era of Chinnery (1825-1852)’ (in Cantonese), will be hosted by Hong Kong scholar Dr. Joseph Ting Sun Pao at 3:00pm - 5:00pm on Saturday 19th June 2010.

With 450 hundred years’ history on cross-cultural communication between China and the West in addition to thousands of years’ of Chinese civilization behind, Macao features many distinctive, exceptional and multicultural intangible cultural heritages. These heritages are in need of our protection and efforts to pass down. In recent years, the public and the Government have been discussing at different levels on how to protect and pass down these fine traditions. In order to encourage local people, associations and institutions to submit their applications, and in order to provide them with a better knowledge of the procedure concerned, Macao Museum of IC has especially scheduled two briefing sessions, inviting two expert leaders from the national intangible heritage evaluation team – Mr. Qi Qingfu, a professor of Minzu University of China, and Mr. Wu Wenke, the director of the Quyi (Singing and Narrative Arts) Department at the Academy of Arts of China – to join the events. They will briefly explain to the public the protection policies of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and of China. The briefing will be from a nation-wide angle to explore the cultural value of Macao’s national intangible heritage and to introduce the assessment criteria of the national intangible cultural heritage. There will be communication with the public to answer their questions concerning the application, offering effective information and tips for those who are interested in protecting the intangible cultural heritage in Macao and intended to submit their application.
The session concerning folk culture (festivals or others) will be held on November 13th (Saturday), from 3 pm till 5 pm, and another session concerning Quyi and performing arts on November 14th (Sunday), from 3 pm till 5 pm. To complement the exhibition, it will host two seminars in the Macao Museum Auditorium prior to and during the exhibition. The first session will be held on Saturday 27th November. Interested parties and residents are welcome to enrol for the seminar.
Following the successful inscription of ‘Macao Religious Figure Carving’ on the list of the second batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage on 14th June 2008, the Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau once again initiated the declaration for three items, namely “Taoist Ritual Music in Macao”, “Cantonese Naamyam (Narrative Songs)”, and “Feast of the Drunken Dragon”. The relevant documents were submitted to the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China in September 2009. The results will be announced by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China by the end of this year.
Taoism is a religion native to China. Taoist Ritual Music, which is commonly used in Taoist ceremonies, remains an integral part of traditional Chinese folk music. As at the present, Macao has preserved nearly 500 items of Taoist Ritual Music from the Lingnan Zhengyi and Quanzhen schools. Such a large number of repertoires is unrivalled by any other Taoist ritual music genre in the world.
The two seminars - known as ‘The Influence of Taoist Ritual Music in Macao’ and ‘The Value of Taoist Ritual Music’ - will be held on Saturday 27th November from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and on Saturday 18th December from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, respectively. The Macao Museum has specially invited Wang Zhongren, a former associate professor of Wuhan Conservatory of Music, to speak at the seminars, which are conducted in Mandarin.
Through the seminars, the organizer seeks to enable audiences to recognise the historical context and characteristics of the traditional folk music of Taoist Ritual Music in Macao. Taoism is a traditional Chinese native religion and part of the Chinese culture. It greatly enriches the Chinese traditional culture during its long development process. Up until now, its influence is still profound. Chinese traditional culture which is composed of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism is actually the backbone of Macao’s local culture. Therefore, the music played during the Taoist rituals (generally called “Taoist Fasts and Offerings Music” or “Taoist Ritual Music”) becomes one of the Macao’s local intangible cultural heritage elements.
The themed exhibition Heavenly Harmonies – Taoist Ritual Music in Macao held by the Museum aims at showing to the public the representative achievements of Macao’s local traditional music and promoting the cultural value contained. At the same time, this exhibition is expected to showcase the significance and the current progress of salvaging, conserving, systemizing and studying the local endangered traditional music. Besides, by holding this exhibition, it is believed that the general public can have a better knowledge and understanding about this intangible cultural heritage so that the public awareness of preservation can be enhanced.
In order to help the residents and visitors in Macao get more acquainted with the features of the Taoist Ritual Music in Macao, the organizer has arranged two themed seminars to tie in with the exhibition. news/2010/Seminar_heritage1128.jpg NULL 2 88 NULL 119 1 Outstanding Performance Award for Macao Museum Docents 2010 2011-01-25 12:00:00.000 The “Outstanding Contracted Docent Award Ceremony 2010”, hosted by the Macao Museum, was held last Sunday (January 23) to recognize well-performing contracted docents for their quality service to the public last year, encouraging them for their excellent long-term contribution to the general public and school education.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chan Ieng Hin, Director of the Macao Museum, recognized the docents who has made significant contributions to public services over last year. In fact, the Museum pays great attention to guided tour service, seeing it as one of the most important output. Therefore, in order to promote quality services, and raise and foster this kind of ethos to serve the public, award ceremony is held regularly every year. The number of visitors using Macao Museum’s guided tour services increases year by year, reaching an amount of 14,655 in 2010, up by 14.4% compared with 2009, and setting a new record again with the number of 1,038 tours, up by 11.7% compared with 2009. Last year was also the year when this service got expanded to the Mandarin House. The figures tells not only the public’s great concern on the Museum, but also the successful achievements that the Museum had on promoting quality guided tour service and improving docents’ guiding skills. So, in order to meet the increasing need of guided tour service in the future, last year Macao Museum hosted the “4th Docent Training Course of Cultural Affairs Bureau”, intended to bring in talent to strengthen the tour guiding team.
This year, six docents were awarded the “Outstanding Contracted Docent Award 2010”, including Wong Siu Wai, Chio Ieng Soi, Lei Cecilia Sam I, Ieong Weng Chao, Fong Un Wa and Chan Wa Kan, while three received the “Enthusiastic Contracted Docent Award 2010”, including Cheong Wan I, Lau Si Weng and Wong Cheng Lai. Totally 22 docents were granted the “Contracted Docent Award 2010”, including Chan Wa Kan, Ieong Weng Chao, Fong Un Wa, Chan Un Un, Kou Iun Fong, Lei Kit Peng, Chan Lin Chu, Cheong Mei Iong, Chio Ieng Soi, Lao Kin Mei, Lei Cecilia Sam I, Chan Mei Ieng, Wong Siu Wai, Pang Sao Lai, Si Ieong, Hou Kaina, Vai Oi Leng, Lei Sin I, Ieong Un U, Wong Kuan Fu and Sio Kin Sang. During the Ceremony, video clips and photos shot last year during the guided tour were especially showed to the attendants and some awardees were invited to share their experiences on tour guiding. There were also party and lucky draw, creating a nice and friendly atmosphere for the activity.

To satisfy a demand of citizen in festival day, besides Sunday is free for Macau residents and students card holders, is also free to visit the Museum during 3rd to 6 th, February.
Macao Museum is exhibiting “Heavenly Harmonies – Taoist Ritual Music in Macao” and welcome the public to visit the exhibition. Taoism is a traditional Chinese native religion and part of the Chinese culture, therefore, the music played during the Taoist rituals and it is part of Chinese culture. The Taoist Ritual Music is one of the Macao Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. To discover and to communicate the information of protecting intangible Cultural Heritage, Macao Museum organizes the exhibition. The visitor will interprets all sorts of taoist ritual music and knows the achievement of Macao Museum to preserve more than 500 kinds of the music.
To increase the program of tourists and local citizens in festival, Macao Museum shows the period pieces in displays at the ticket counter on 1st February, 2011 and it is about Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council visiting Macao Museum in November, 2010. Meanwhile, the video about the conversation of Wen Jiabao with teenagers transmits in the exit of 3rd floor of Macao Museum, the audiences knows the geniality of Premier and he is concerned and except about the youngsters.

news/2011/ChineseNewYear2.jpg NULL 1 88 NULL 121 1 Macao Museum Closes Application for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the End of March, Exhibition of Taoist Ritual Music to Extend until May 2011-03-18 12:00:00.000 Since the Cultural Affairs Bureau established the list of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2007, the declaration work has been drawing extensive attention and support from various social sectors plus the active participation of numerous organisations. Currently, the list of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage features six items, three of which, namely “Yueju Opera”(Cantonese Opera), “Herbal Tea” and “Woodwork – Macao Religious Figure Carving”, are successfully inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The remaining three items “Cantonese Naamyam (Narrative Songs)”, “Macao Taoist Ritual Music”, and “Festival of the Drunken Dragon” are also included in the national public review list. Yueju Opera (Cantonese Opera) is even inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
For the purpose of preserving Macao’s intangible cultural heritage, the declaration of the current batch of Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage will close on 31st March. Interested institutions or individuals are welcome to submit applications to the Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau prior to the above mentioned deadline.
Interested individuals may download the application form from the Macao Museum website, together with a short clip (maximum 10 minutes in DVD format) and a minimum of five digital photographs (5.0 megapixels or more) of the declared item, proof of written consent from the heir(s) and written consent for Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau to use the application materials for publicity and promotion. As the declaration of intangible cultural heritage is a long-term project which places strong emphasis on quality and content, should any institutions or individuals be unable to meet the deadline, they are encouraged to participate in the next batch of declarations.
