In order to further publicize the culture of the Macao Drunken Dragon Dance, as well as to coordinate with the “The Soaring Dance —Drunken Dragon Festival in Macao” exhibition which is currently taking place, the Macao Museum specially lays out “Workshop – To learn the Drunken Dragon Dance”, targeting at youngsters who are interested in it, allowing the youngsters to understand the history and attempt to this distinctive traditional arts personally, and spread the cultural values of the Drunken Dragon Dance.

The Macao Drunken Dragon Dance was included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage List of Macao in 2009 and successfully inscribed on the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Third Batch of Submissions on May 2011. In order to coordinate with the exhibition of the “The Soaring Dance —Drunken Dragon Festival in Macao” to be held at the Macao Museum until 15th April and the promotion campaigns with this unique and long-established custom in Macao, Mr. Kwan Vai Meng, the Director of Macao Fresh Fish and Commercial Association, is specially invited by the Macao Museum to be the tutor of the workshop, interpreting and guiding the history and the basic skills pertaining to the Drunken Dragon Dance, allowing the youngsters to experience the fun. The Workshop will be held two sessions daily on 11th and 18th March, Sundays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is free of charge and the youngsters from the ages of 10 to 15 are welcomed to participate and 15 quotas in each session are available, which will be on “first register first serve” basis. In addition, the public review period of the four 2011 nominations to the Intangible Cultural Heritage List of Macao, the “Macanese Gastronomy”, the “Patuá Theatre”, the “A-Ma Customs and Beliefs of Macao” and the “Na Cha Customs and Beliefs of Macao” will be ended on 10th March. All people are free to submit any disagreement in writing with arguments and evidences to the Macao Museum, by post or deliver to the Macao Museum or by fax to 2835 8503 before the above date. Postmark of mail shall prevail if there is any dispute on submission date. All correspondence should include the real name, address, and contact telephone number.
