Macao Museum opens for free to children on International Children’s Day

Contemporary museums play an important role in social education. In order to encourage parents to visit museums with their children, the Macao Museum under the Cultural Affairs Bureau will offer free admission for children under the age of 12 and their two accompanying adults on 1st June (Saturday). Two free guided public tours are available respectively at 3:00 p.m. (in Cantonese) and 4:00 p.m. (in Mandarin). In addition, on June 8th to 9th (Saturday and Sunday) of the "China Cultural Heritage Day", the Macao Museum is also free to the public.

Promoting healthy physical and mental development, and social youth of children and youth, are the top priorities for museums, so the Macao Museum keeps updating the educational contents of the permanent exhibitions and adopting more interactive and multi-media demonstrations. As for temporary exhibitions and other events, the Museum tries its best to design relevant activities and games suitable for children and youth, in an attempt to advertise the notion of harmonious parent-child relationship, motivating the parents to come with their children for a better understanding of the exhibition and the knowledge concerned, and of Macao’s history and culture.

At present the Macao Museum is hosting Fantasy World – Chinoiserie, a feature exhibition highlighting cultural relics, photos and documentaries that show Europe’s Chinoiserie craze during the 17th and 18th century, to inspire young visitors’ enthusiasm in Chinese traditional culture. The venue also offers children interactive computer games, while other children entertainments are available in the Education Corner. Parents are welcome to bring over their children to visit the exhibition, as such can enhance family-child communication, improve the children’s understanding of Chinese culture and arts and arouse their interest.

Fantasy World – Chinoiserie exhibition is now open till 18th August (Closed on Mondays) with feature exhibition guided tour service. Group and school sign-ups/appointments are welcome. Macao citizens with valid ID card or student card are admitted for free on Sunday.
