Celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Macao Museum

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Macao Museum’s establishment, under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Museum will organize a temporary exhibition “Fantasy World – Chinoiserie”. A presentation of Donation of Certificates ceremony will also be held at the same time. The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held at 5:00 p.m. on 24th May (Friday). Certificates will be awarded to 5 people, who have donated important relics to the Macao Museum, in order to convey the Museum’s gratitude and compliments, and encourage more Macao citizens to show their strong support to the Museum by donating relics that are of great cultural and historical value. Such donations can help preserve precious possession to the next generations, and can better utilize their educational function.

To cooperate with the celebration activities of the Macao Museum, the Macao Post Office issued stamps themed on “Museums and their collections III – Macao Museum” on 10th May 2013. This issue includes a stamp set of four, a stamp sheetlet and two First Day envelopes, with stamp designs featuring the collections of Macao Museum. These philatelic gems are available at the post offices in the Central, Rua do Campo, the Hong Kong Macao Ferry Terminal, the Macao International Airport and the Communications Museum.

Functioning as the city museum, the Macao Museum has walked with Macao citizens for 15 years since its opening in 1998. It has received national leaders, important politicians from various countries, tourists and Macao citizens, in a total of more than three millions of visitors. The Macao Museum has become an important cultural exhibition organisation, to exhibit to the outside world the history of Chinese and Western cultural exchanges, as well as to provide education to the local community. Moreover, the Macao Museum is located in the Mount Fortress, which figures among the Historic Centre of Macao. The Mount Fortress has become the local prominent scenic spot, along with other scenic spots inscribed on the World Heritage List (UNESCO). It has also undertaken the important responsibility of promotion and protection of local history and culture. The Macao Museum’s objective has remained to “establish an academic centred Museum” in these 15 years, for the purpose of strengthening local historical culture studies, as well as raising exhibitions, education and promotion service standard. The Macao Museum has been making arrangements to sort out and protect the historic relics systematically, keeping up to the professional standard in all aspects. New exhibits and hardware have been displayed to raise the educational services and guided tours services standard. The Macao Museum has organised temporary exhibitions, lectures and publication relevant to local historical culture. Year by year, number of visitors to the Macao Museum and number of people who receive guided tours have been increasing. From here we can see that the Macao Museum has earned its respect and credit from Macao citizens, visitors and all walks of life.
