In order to promote the development of the Cultured Greater Bay Area in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and further strengthen cooperation among the three regions, the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the exhibition “A Tale of Three Cities: Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Export of Silk Products in the Ming and Qing Dynasties”. The opening ceremony was held on 26 November, at the lobby of the Macao Museum, and was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mok Ian Ian; the Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Yin Rutao; the 2^nd Class Inspector of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, Zhou Xianhua; the Director of the Guangdong Museum, Xiao Haiming; the Deputy General Manager of the Bank of China Macau Branch, Chan Hio Peng; the Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Air Macau Company Limited, Wen Dexin; and the Director of the Macao Museum, Lou Ho Ian. The Secretary for Home Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Tsui Ying Wai, also participated in the opening ceremony via video. The exhibition is held until 13 March 2022. All are welcome to visit.

Jointly organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, the Home Affairs of the Government of Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the exhibition is presented by the Guangdong Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Macao Museum, with the support of Air Macau and the Bank of China Macau Branch. As a large-scale touring exhibition jointly organized by the museums of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the event started at the Guangdong Museum in 2020, after which it is held in Macao before moving to the Hong Kong Museum of Art next year.

The exhibition features a total of 112 sets (201 pieces) exhibits from the collections of the museums of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The exhibition is divided into four sections, namely the “Greater Bay Area”, “Export Silk”, “The Changing World” and “The Greater Bay Area Today”. Through export paintings depicting prosperous scenes in the bay area in the old days as well as silk artefacts including silk fabrics, hand-painted silk, domestic items, clothing and accessories, the exhibition demonstrates the golden era of export of silk products in the Ming and Qing dynasties and its influence on China and the world, proving the significance of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as important hubs on the Maritime Silk Road.  

In conjunction with this exhibition, the Macao Museum will host the “Experiencing Intangible Cultural Heritage at Zero Distance – Canton Embroidery Fans Workshop” in mid-December. Interested parties can register online through the “Activities Registration System” on the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s website (www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event).  In addition, Macao Museum will launch an online virtual reality exhibition with the same theme, allowing the public to enjoy the exhibition through the Museum’s webpage. Further information will be announced later.

The Macao Museum opens daily from 10am to 6pm (the ticket booth closes at 5:30pm) and is closed on Mondays. Admission is free for Macao residents who present a Macao SAR Resident Identity Card, as well as for the general public on Tuesdays and the on the 15^th of every month. The Cultural Affairs Bureau will closely monitor the development of the pandemic, follow the relevant guidelines of the Health Bureau and implement appropriate arrangements in a timely manner. The public is advised to co-operate with crowd control measures, and everyone must wear their own masks, undergo body temperature checks, and present the health codes of the day upon entry.
