Making a crucially important contribution to world civilization, China has been accredited the ‘Kingdom of Porcelain’ for its porcelain ware.
Starting from the Tang Dynasty, Chinese porcelain ware was exported in massive quantities to various parts of the world via a maritime trade route known as the ‘Maritime Porcelain Road’. From the mid-Ming Dynasty, Macao served as one of the crucial ports for the trading of export porcelain ware. Kraak Porcelain plates and scattered pieces excavated in Macao serve as evidence to this historical fact.
A joint co-operation between the museums of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the exhibition ‘Maritime Porcelain Road’ will show first in Macao. Organisers include the Guangdong Department of Culture, Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government. The exhibition is initiated by Guangdong Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art and Macao Museum.
