Paper-cutting has been one of the fascinating folk arts in the long-standing Chinese decorative art tradition. As early as Han and Tang Dynasties, there was the prevailing custom of women adorning their hair with Fang-Sheng, which was a set of two overlapping rhomboid pads decorated with gold or silver tinsel and scissor-cut silk flowers and birds. Two lines from the renowned poet Li Shang-yin of Tang Dynasty provided a lively portrayal of the popularity of scissor-cutting at the time, and therefore testified to the long history of the art of paper-cutting.
