To promote the development of a Cultured Greater Bay Area in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and further strengthen cooperation among the three regions, the Macao Museum of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the exhibition A Tale of Three Cities: Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Export of Silk Products in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jointly organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, the Home Affairs of the Government of Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the exhibition is presented by the Guangdong Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art and Macao Museum with the support of Air Macau and the Bank of China Macau Branch. As a large-scale touring exhibition jointly organized by three museums, from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, the event first toured at the Guangdong Museum in 2020, and this year it is being presented in Macao before moving to the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 2023.

By showcasing a selection of 112 sets (201 pieces) exhibits from cultural institutions of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, four themed sections devided into namely the “Greater Bay Area”, “Export Silk”, “The Changing World” and “The Greater Bay Area Today”, through export paintings depicting prosperous scenes in the bay area in the old days as well as silk artefacts including not only silk fabrics, hand-painted silk, domestic items but also clothing and accessories, the exhibition demonstrates the golden era of export of silk products in the Ming and Qing dynasties and its influence on China and the world, proving the significance of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as important hubs on the Maritime Silk Road.
