This exhibition showcases 150 of Chinnery’s works from different periods (1790’s to 1840’s) including oil paintings, watercolours, sketches, and drawings.
The exhibition is composed of four sections – namely, ‘Life in England’, ‘A Trip to India’, ‘Times In South China’, and ‘Soul of Painting’. It highlights the presentation of precious historical records and information about Macao, Guangzhou and Hong Kong in the first half of the 19th Century following Chinnery’s settling in Macao in 1825. It also features works by Chinese and overseas artists influenced by the painting style of Chinnery in his old age, including works by Marciano António Baptista (1826-1896), Dr. Thomas Boswall Watson (1815-1860), and export painter Lam Qua.
The exhibition features collections from Macao Museum, HSBC, Jardine Matheson Limited, Macao Museum of Art, and various collections provided by private collectors.
