Guangzhou weaving gold polychromeglazed porcelain, or simply Guangcai - glazed porcelain, appeared among the export wares in the late Kangxi era of the Qing dynasty. Overglaze enameling was adopted with technical features of famille verte, famille rose, faience, etc. In order to meet the market demand, local merchants ordered white biscuit porcelains from Jingdezhen and glazed the polychrome patterns on them in Guangzhou. After firing they were sold to foreign traders. This handled jar has the pattern of story characters in a Chinese mountain-and-water landscape, which is a common thematic feature of the export wares at the time.
